Himalayan salt walls in saunas: what they are and what they do

A Himalayan salt wall is a feature wall of pink salt bricks, backlit with warm LED light, built into a sauna or a relaxation room. It gives a soft amber glow and a striking look. Claims that it cleans the air or treats breathing problems are not well supported, so we sell it for how it looks and feels.

How a salt wall is built

Salt bricks are laid on a frame or a timber backing, usually with a gap behind for LED strips. The light shines through the salt and gives the whole room an amber glow. In a sauna the wall sits behind the bench or on a side wall, away from the heater.

Cost

A salt wall added to any Sauna Spaces sauna starts at AED 3,800 for one feature wall, including lighting.

What about the health claims?

You will see claims online that salt walls release negative ions, purify the air or help asthma. There is little good evidence for this. Salt therapy in clinics uses fine salt aerosol, which a wall of bricks does not produce. We recommend a salt wall because it looks beautiful and makes the room feel calm, not as a treatment.

Care

Salt attracts moisture, so salt walls suit dry saunas and infrared rooms, not steam rooms. Wipe gently with a dry cloth. A little surface moisture is normal and dries out when the sauna runs.

Questions

Are saunas good for your health?

Regular sauna use is linked in long running Finnish research with better cardiovascular health, and many people use it for relaxation and recovery. It is not a treatment for any condition. Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or have a heart condition or high blood pressure.

How much does a home sauna cost in Dubai?

A built in infrared sauna from Sauna Spaces starts at AED 18,500, a traditional Finnish sauna for a 2 x 2 m room starts at AED 26,500, and a hybrid sauna starts at AED 29,500. Prices include design, supply and installation in Dubai and exclude VAT. Your final price depends on size, timber, heater and finish.

How do I maintain a home sauna?

Wipe the benches after use, leave the door open to dry the room, and vacuum the floor weekly. Once a year the heater stones should be checked and the timber cleaned and treated. Our care plan covers this visit.

Can you build a sauna to fit an unusual space?

Yes. Every sauna we build is made to measure, so sloped ceilings, corners, glass walls and odd shapes are normal for us. Send us photos and rough measurements on WhatsApp and we will tell you what fits.
